We are off and running....

The day has finally arrived. We are leaving for
Australia in a few moments! A dream of a
lifetime! I will try to post from the land downunder but it will all depend on WiFi access.
I made a little thank you card to give to a new friend I have been emailing and whom I have not met...yet. Like a blind date, there is a lot of anxiety and nervousness but we feel we have known each other for a long time. I hope she likes it!! I used Create a Critter for the leaf and also to make the sweet little beaver on the inside. I am sure I will be explaining what a beaver is as she will be  teaching me about the animals and birds of Oz. Thanks for looking!! See you Downunder!

Fall Has Arrived

We have now gone from gorgeous warm, weather to cold, wet, almost snowy-like conditions....and the leaves are almost all off the trees. I guess that is what happens when Hallowe'en is just around the corner. Yesterday, Wed Oct 19th my Mother celebrated her 94th  birthday! My brother, an elementary school principal and I took Mom out for lunch and we had a fabulous meal and afternoon together.  She was so excited and happy to celebrate yet another year. Mom and Dad both shared the exact birth date, and now that he is gone, Mom is a little lost when it comes to her birthday. Isn't it great feeling to love and be loved?

Happy Thanksgiving

What an incredible weekend we have in store in Ontario!! Besides the perfect weather forecast, it is the start of Oktoberfest and our Thanksgiving Holiday. Today my family made their way here and we celebrated with lots of wonderful food but most of all, the precious gathering of family. How blessed we are! I made this card for our minister. She went out of her way to help me take pictures at our son's wedding. I used the Pack Your Bags cartridge and paper and ribbon from my stash. Challenges to be entered:
Little Red Wagon - thanks
Creative Cutter - thanks
Shopping Our Stash - thank you

My friend has become a grandmother...again!
Garrett was born Sept 27th and is a healthy
baby boy. He has two brothers who are so
proud and anxious to get on with their
brotherly duties! I used my New Arrival
cartridge and Echo Park paper to make
her a card. I will enter it into the anything
goes challenge at Cooking with Cricut.

An Early October Birthday

Time to turn over a new fall leaf. I made a birthday card last night for my neighbour whose special day is today... Happy Birthday, Ellen!
I really like the Stella Rose paper
by My Mind's Eye. So I started with
a base and began to build. Bugaboo's
freebie this week, was just what I
needed to get my start. Copic markers
were used to colour and glitter was
added to the candle, stars and cake.
Glossy accents was used on the balloon. I outlined the sentiment with the Sakura clear pen....I liked the bit of glitz. A  button and some twine was added to the star. I hope she likes it! I will enter this card into the following challenges:
Catch the Bug - anything goes

Wedding Day

My husband I were thrilled when our son and fiance visited us on the July long weekend to tell us they had  finally decided to get married...it had only taken eleven years! They chose the date...July 23rd and planned to use our church. Two weeks before the wedding date, Matt asked if they could use our backyard since  they were only including family. So, after all these years of having many flower gardens, I changed up this year and planted vegetables....where would they stand?....amongst the tomatoes? ...or between the  beans and beets? We decided it didn't matter. The ministers have a great sense of humour and one took pictures while the other performed the service. It was a beautiful day and the bride and groom  decided that 9:30 AM was a perfect time, especially with the heat of the summer. It was delightful! I made wedding announcements and was happy with the way  they turned out. I used PTI paper, ribbon and sentiment, Labels 20 Nestabilities, and a Cuttlebug embossing folder. I printed the announcement inside and used a PTI flower stamp. I made some with plain green ribbon, others with swiss dot and the rest with plain cream ribbon.  I will enter it into the following challenges:
Pile it On - "B" bow
Creative Card Crew - anything goes
Our Craft Lounge - anything goes
Delicious Doodles - fresh start (new stamp)

Restful Sunday

It is so nice to have a day to reflect. We have so much
to be thankful for. My thoughts are with the folks on the
east coast as they deal with Hurricane Irene. First came
the earthquake, then the hurricane. What crazy weather!
Lately, I am in need of sympathy cards. We struggle
to express our sorrow and I discovered that saying less
is sometimes better. Being there to hold a hand, or give
a hug or make some cookies is my way of helping out.
This week I had two cards to make and this one was
elegant and simple to make. I can express my thoughts
inside. It fits into several challenges:
fabnfunky - monochromatic
Ooh-la-la - no backing paper
Freshly Brewed challenge - embossing

What is in my garden???

Rosanne once posted on her blog a question asking what was growing in our gardens. I immediately went out and took lots of pictures and then took time to stop and "smell the roses". I don't think we do enough of that. Thanks Rosanne!!

Stanley Cup Finals

I must admit that neither the Vancouver Canucks nor the Boston Bruins are on my regular radar for watching a good game of hockey....however there is something about the playoffs and the final game that causes me to get back to the game! Was I cheering for the Canucks because they are "Canadian"  or the favourite team to win....I don't think I really had a deep inner rage for either team. I understand that many of the Boston Bruins are Canadian.  I respect that they were able to rally and get what they wanted...the Lord Stanley Cup....the cherry on top of all games....so congratulations go out to the Boston Bruins , one of the original six!
Oh yeah....how long until the season starts back up again????

Take Me Out to a Good Old Ball Game!!

While we were in Washington, we made a side trip to Baltimore. What a great city! After an afternoon walking tour, we paid a visit to Camden Yards to watch an Oriole/Kansas City ball game and what a game it was!! It went to the last inning tied and with two out, the Orioles scored to win the game! The ball park is full of history and it was a pleasure to sit where many have gone before and enjoy a wonderful evening of ball!

Border Humour

I have to share a story....as we were crossing from Canada to the USA, a border security guard got on board our bus before asking us to come inside to swipe our passports. He asked the driver who we were. Our driver Jeff  is Asian and his English is understandable if you listen. He replied, " Retired Educators". The guard looked at him questioningly and asked, "Retired Gangsters???" The entire bus broke out in laughter! I think we should have a bus named Retired Gangsters written on it. I wonder how long it would then take us to cross the border! I loved that moment!
Our days have been hectic. We have been putting in 14-15 hours a day and we are tired. The weather has been hot and humid. I was hoping to post a few pictures but when the bus arrives back at the hotel at 11:00 PM....what can I say? Stay tuned!

Monday, May 23, 2011

Washington bound....

We are off and running to Washington DC. It's going to be a long day of travel but well worth it! There will be a few stops en route with dinner in Gettysburg. The hotel is in Maryland and we should make it by 9:00 tonight!! Tomorrow, we are heading to Arlington Cemetery and a downtown walk in Baltimore..... then a ball game at Camden Yards....let's see what kind of pictures I can capture!!

Made it Myself Mondays

Alex, over at  youhadmeatcraft.com has started a weekly show and tell of your crafts. All you have to do is link up something you made that is crafty!  It looks like fun! I made this wall hanging many years ago and have it hanging in my craft room. It is suppose to inspire me to get back into sewing! Some day soon....

Thanks

In one week the countryside has turned green!
We have had a lot of rain and I hear it's going
to continue. Last Friday I was able to get some
perennials in as well as some annuals, now to
watch for frost. The birds are feasting on worms
and enjoying their last few days as empty nesters.
Soon the baby birds will have hatched and we will
have to keep an eye out for prowling cats.
I used a CC Designs stamp coloured with Copics,
two nestabilities, some Prima flowers and three
pearls. It is bright and cheery and will be a
perfect thank you for anyone! I will enter this into
 the following challenges:
LRW - houses
Sew Many Challenges - anything goes
Papertake Weekly- fancy a punch

Repost from Wed... Some Things Never Change! (Blog post disappeared)

Inside: Thirty years later, some things never change!
Happy Birthday Matt! This card is for my son
who is celebrating his 30th bday today! I posted
this on Wed night but discovered it has mysteriously disappeared so here we go again!
I used a cute Bugaboo stamp, coloured him with Copics, pop dotted the square for dimension, and used Scenic Route paper with some ribbon and twine. My son, in his youth had trouble keeping his clothes on, so this image is perfect for him! I am re-entering it into the following challenges:
One Crazy Stamper : men/boys
Catch the Bug : anything goes
One Stop Craft Challenge: birthday
PIO : funny bone
Digis with Attitude: make us laugh
Stamp Something:  anything goes
Pollycraft Challenge: boyz to men

Where has the post gone??? Help!!

Some things never change!!

After thirty years, some things never change!
This week will come to a grinding halt on Friday when my son celebrates his thirtieth (did I really write that? ) birthday!!! I don't feel THAT old and yet I have a son now in his 30's..... I remember well, not adjusting to that age just like I didn't like 40, or 50 or 60!! It's only a number and it's how I feel inside. Gee, I wonder how he is doing? Really!  Anyways, I had to make him a special card and I have been dwelling on this important deed for a while but not coming up with anything. Suddenly, on Wednesday I had an idea which stems from his youth. He LOVED being naked!! It was a chore to keep the clothes on him. In our home, we are pretty prudish about these things, so I have no idea where it started. But it certainly was entertaining!  I found this adorable image in the Bugaboo store and I knew it was for him. The  inside says:
"After thirty years, some things never change!!" I know it will make him laugh and I hope he has as much fun in the next thirty years, as he has had in the last. I am so proud of him and wish him love!
I used Scenic Route as my paper and coloured my image with Copics. I added pop dots for dimension and some ribbon and twine. Some Cuttlebug embossing was added to the top piece and the sentiment inside was computer generated. I would like to enter this card into the following challenges:
PIO : funny bone
Catch the bug : anything goes
One Crazy Stamper : men/boys
One Stop Crafty Challenge : birthday
Digis With Attitude : make us laugh
Stamp Something : May digi day
Pollycraft Challenge: boyz to men

ALERT: An Orange CN Tower

Tonight, Saturday May 7th, the CN Tower in Toronto will be lit up orange! It will be quite a sight to see! This is a huge happening to recognize my brother-in-law Joe Finley who passed away from cancer last October. He and his Joe's Team Triathlon have raised over 3 million dollars for cancer in five years...an amzing feat! The triathlon will be held again this July at Lake Joseph in Muskoka and a team will begin this tradition in Calgary this year. If you are in Toronto tonight and see the CN Tower beaming orange, raise your hand and say a prayer for all those affected with this horrible disease. Cancer can be beaten!!

Fun Friday

I spent the day making cards with a group of fun loving gals and I am pooched! Earlier this week, I started to make this card but life got in the way! I used a Stamping Bella stamp, coloured with Copics, ran a faux stitch line around the image, adhered it to dotted BoBunny paper and added two buttons.  Some pop dots were added for some dimension. I also used Prima paper and added it to some backing that was embossed with Spots and Dots. A little glammer dust was added here and there. I will enter the card
into the following challenges:
LRW - bicycle
PIO - time to travel
Lady Bug Crafts - going dotty
My Mum's Craft Shop - cute and girly
My Craft Spot - We Love You Mom

Happy Mother's Day

Finally, the wedding of the century is upon us and I look forward to seeing the fashions and of course Kate`s dress, but especially the variety of hats. I am fascinated with the Fascinators! I have my red, broad brimmed hat decorated with flowers and my red gloves ready to don in the early hours as I settle in to watch the fairy tale wedding. While on holiday, I purchased Kate's ABC's and have been admiring the hats on this cartridge. So, in honour of my Mom, I made a hat, embossed the broad brim, added flowers and blinged them (is there such a word) and attached a pearl in the centre. A few pop dots gave the hat some dimension. I used two ribbons to adorn the bottom with a little lacey scallop and three pearls to the edge. I made the sentiment on the computer ``Hats off....to you Mom!`` I will enter this card into the following challenges:
Fantabulous Cricut: Mom`s the word
PIO: 2 ribbons
Simon Says Stamp: anything goes
Aud Sentiments: Happy Mother`s Day

Happy Easter

He is risen...hallelujah! Beautiful day...we are so blessed!
Yesterday was my daughter's birthday and she loved
her card!  I used Scarlette from Bugaboo Stamps, coloured her with Copics, and added some bling to her boots. I added a tulle bow and made rolled flowers on which I spritzed glimmer mist. I made the sentiment on the computer "got presents?" which was scraplifted from Bugaboo.  The DP comes from Basic Grey. I don't think I would have ever put pink and yellow together, but somehow it works! I am entering this card into the following challenge:
One Crazy Stamper - flowers

Today is my daughter Catherine's birthday...Hello

I had to wish my DD a big Happy Birthday on her day...
St George's Day! We will see her tomorrow and I will
post the card I made for her then!
Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks?
I think I have finally become comfortable with page maps. I tried one out for this card. A YNS rubber stamp was used that Karen so generously donated to the Scrapfest goodie bags. I coloured her with Copics, added a little bling to her outfit, mounted it with pop dots onto cardstock stamped with a Hero Arts cloud stamp.
The paper is from Making Memories. I sewed around the various layers and added some  rick rack instead of ribbon. The sentiment is from Hampton Art. I will enter it into the following challenges:
YNS - texture
LRW - clouds
PIO - smells like rubber

Easter Tube Bunnies

I hope everyone has had some family time today. My friend Julie and I picked up some tubes several weeks ago at Scrapfest and while I left on holiday, Julie drafted some bunnies. We finally came together this week and created these sweet creatures, maybe not so much in photo 2D but in 3D they really do look cute. I used pipe cleaners to form the ears and attached the ribbon to the back of the ears with a hot glue gun. I added googly eyes, a pompom nose and whiskers and a tail and tied ribbon around the tube to which I added my bow. Luckily, I had enough jellies to fill the tubes....I think I ate half!  I hope everyone enjoys them on Easter Sunday!
I will enter these cuties into the following challenges:
Easy Craft Projects- Easter #36
Crafts and Me - pink and sweet (half of picture )
Craft Your Days Away - Easter #18
The Sisterhood of Crafters- Easter
Penny's Challenges - Easter

To My Hubby....Happy Birthday!

Today is my husband's birthday.....so let's celebrate! After our dance lessons tonight, we are meeting friends for dinner. Her birthday is also today, thus the double celebration! Happy Birthday Donna!
We have been away this past week in Virginia enjoying golf, a little history and some R & R. It was somewhat exciting last Saturday when the weather grew worse and there were many tornado sightings. Lucky for us the worst missed us but we keep those affected in our prayers.
I made this card very quickly using a Bugaboo stamp and Imaginisce paper and two nesties. I hope he likes it!

Mykonos Layout

My first layout post!! Yahoo!!  I started  scrapbooking two years ago and this past year became intrigued with all the beautiful cards that I kept finding online. But I must give credit where credit is due...it was thanks to Rosanne who really inspired and encouraged me. Thank you Rosanne!! As a result, I pushed the scrapping aside but know that I must get back to it with a balanced crafty life.
I have been trying to work on a cruise that my husband and I took two years ago and I found it difficult to find the "perfect layout"... especially
with the hundreds of pictures from which to choose. Recently, I have been slowly investing in  the books "Sketches for Scrapbooking" and taking
classes on "how to". This layout is from one of the books and was completed in a great class that I took from Joanne. It has taken me a while to just look at the background and worry about the pictures later. I like the way it turned out...crisp and clean. What do you think?

Posies

When I saw that Regan from Little Red Wagon had a challenge using fabric, I thought I was done. Although I have a barrel-ful of fabric from my quilting days, I couldn't seem to get motivated. Looking around my craft room, I noticed my Sunbonnet Sue wall hanging and remembered making "yo-yo's" using up the left over material from my daughter's dresses. This fabric was made into an Easter dress, rather appropriate now that it is April! Easy to make and I added a butterfly button and a flower button as embellishment. The leaves I embossed and cut out freehand. Easy peasy and fun!!

Shirley Valentine... a day at the theatre

It was a beautiful day to travel to London and watch the play "Shirley Valentine" at the Grand Theatre. I laughed with Shirley as she rediscovered herself...from a boring middle-aged housewife, who talks to a wall to the real Shirley. In a one lady play, she continually asks herself what has happened to her life. A girlfriend pays for them to travel to Greece and there she finds an escape. Shirley is daring to venture beyond the person she has become and to reconnect with the person she once was. She tells her story in a humorous way and it is easy to identify with her. The leading actress is Nora McLellan - thank you Nora!!

Butterfly Bear

After a silly week of snow....I think it's
time to warm up! The sun is shining and
that does soothe the soul! I attended a great
card making class this week and considered
entering one of the products...wink, wink,
Joanne....but decided that might be considered
cheating...you think? So I had some time this
afternoon and came up with one of my own!
I used Butterfly Bear (Bugaboo) and coloured
with Copics. The paper is Scenic Route, the
sentiment is from Kimmie's Stamps, and the
butterly is MS. The buttons were in my sewing
box. I added some glammer dust to the butterfly
and stickles to the wings and antennae which aren't too visible but it adds some glam! Thanks for visiting!

I will enter it into the following challenges:
LRW - butterflies
Catch the Bug - monochromatic
Shelly's Images - Think Warm (I am!)
Top Tip Tuesday - 3 buttons
Fairy Knoll FK#43 - Happy
