Holiday Hugs

Last card for the holidays. This was one of my first
attempts at using Copics. I started a couple of weeks ago and finished it last night. I see I have a
lot of practising to do!! I used Basic Gray Jovial, and large scalloped ovals and the stamp Mimosa with Stocking Hat.
Copics: R27, YG97, Y11, Y08, RV21, E000, E00

A Little Bird Told Me...

Today my friend Julie and I made cards and I thought this one turned out nicely. I used craft paper and and older paper I have had hanging around. The stamp and sentiment came from a friend. I used Lacey Nestabilities to frame the bird. Copic markers were used to colour. I added a button and some twine.
If The Shoe Fits - craft paper

Christmas Eve Star

On Christmas Eve, our family attended the evening service at our church. Everyone was asked to bring a star and hang it at the front. I made four using George, embossed using Swirls on the Cuttlebug, and wet embossed using gold. Twine was used to finish them off. They looked so pretty hanging on the tree with the lights making the gold shimmer!

Merry Christmas

I do hope you had a wonderful Christmas. We were so blessed to have our family at home. I tried a new recipe for the turkey this year. My 93 yr old Mother was a little perturbed that I would experiment on such a huge undertaking but I am always up for a cooking challenge and it was an amazing feat! For the first time, I tried  brining the turkey. I would be interested in knowing how many have tried this. I heard about it on a food channel. When I went to pick up my fresh turkey, they gave me the smallest of birds. I was able to negotiate but lugged home a 22lb..er. What to do? Brine. I washed Tom well and then found a clothing container to mix my potion. ( I had loaned my large cooler to my son) I started with hot water, added half a box of Kosher salt and mixed well. Throwing in some garlic, onion, cloves, bay leaves, sage, thyme, (I forgot to buy fresh) I mixed up my brew. In went Tom, and I filled the container with ice water before sliding the box out the kitchen door to the back yard. Outside he sat until Christmas morning, then I washed the salt off and dried him well and added onion to the cavities, some spices and put him in the oven at 450 degrees for half an hour. The temp was then reduced to 325 and I used a little aluminum foil to lightly cover the top until he was done. Wow!! Amazing!!  I know he was overcooked and yet nothing was dry. My Mother who is an incredible cook, was completely surprised at how well the turkey turned out. I think, if I don't mind saying myself, that it was the best turkey I ever had!! Hope your day was full of warm, happy memories!!

One of a Kind

Yes - the One of a Kind Craft Show opened its doors today!! Yahoo! It was a slow start but a good ending. Our Probus Club chartered a bus and 48 ladies were at the Rec Centre at 8:00 to get a good start on their shopping. Unfortunately, the first bus we boarded wasn't ours, so off we went into the cold to wait for the next one. When the second bus arrived, the driver mentioned there were problems with the bus. After boarding and getting settled, I asked him what he meant with "problems". Oh, there is a major transmission problem he said so I called for another bus!! Third is a charm they say! So, we waited patiently, and waited not so patiently until he had a call and drove out and off to the Auditorium. He thought it would be closer for the "coach" to meet us. The coach did arrive and it did have a bathroom and it was bigger, unfortunately, it was a standard so getting in and out of first was a challenge especially in bumper to bumper traffic. We did arrive safely and saw the best show yet! There were vendors from all over Canada and incredible purchases to be had. I did get some wonderful Christmas presents and was excited to bring the haul home. I did learn that the "bum warmer" is THE gift this year. Too bad I learned this after I left the building. Go figure!

On Board Fun!

<>
Ziplining over the Boardwalk

While I was uploading our cruise pix, I got so excited remembering the fun times! Here are a few of the activites that I so enjoyed!!

Bougie Boarding, praying I wouldn't tip off!

Rock Climbing

Getting Ready for Christmas

Being away is nice but the time on holiday adds to the stress level when you return and discover that the majority of the neighbours have their Christmas lights up and decorations out! Today I decided to make a card. I played along at:
LRW as Rosanne's challenge was to add a banner. I have never done this so I liked the idea! I used the stamp Trimming the Tree and coloured with Prismacolors, added some Stickles to the scarf, tree, and star, used some pop dots, stickers from the DCWV Christmas Combo pack, some twine and brads. The picture isn't as vibrant as the real deal but I'll keep  experimenting with exposure.

Gone Sailing....

The Oasis of the Seas
I have been MIA for a couple of weeks and have been having trouble adjusting to time in the real world. We left our home Oct 29 for FLL and enjoyed a day of shopping and relaxing before embarking on the Oasis of the Seas Oct. 30th on a Western Caribbean cruise. The Oasis has the reputation of being the biggest cruise ship in the world. There were 5800 passengers!! I should say so!! She is an amazing ship and if you enjoy being busy, then this might be the ship for you. Many of the passengers were on board for two weeks as it takes that long to take part in all the activities. I don't know about that...we seemed to see and do "almost" everything. Luckily, friends who sailed her in Sept, sent us the Compass...the daily listing of activities so we had a heads up and were able to prioritize. I will try to post some of the pictures we took. Royal Caribbean offers a fun cruise. I was able to Boogie Board, Rock Climb, Zip Line, play mini golf, take a scrapbooking and jewellery making workshop, take a dance class, play trivia, ride the Rising Tide bar...there must be more. The entertainment was outstanding. We saw Hairspray ( I sang along!), saw a show with the Texas Tenors (America's Got Talent), saw an ice skating show based on Hans Christian Andersen, sat in on a stand up comedy show, viewed an aqua theatre show featuring high divers, syncro swimmers and acrobats all performing in a small pool at the back of the ship. They had to postpone our show partway through as the water became rough and dangerous. Once the stabilizers were out and working, the show continued. Come Fly With Me was a show featuring the singers and dancers and acrobats performing above us in the theatre during the show! Experiencing Hallowe'en on the Oasis was an experience in itself! The activities team went all out with decorations, music, a parade on the Promenade. We even went through a haunted house! Some passengers went all out wearing the most creative costumes!  What a week! We were exhausted! Afterwards, we headed up past West Palm Beach and spent the next week on the beach. It was just what the doctor ordered!

Treat Bags

As we won't be at home Hallowe'en  night, I made some old fashioned caramel apples and with some candy and chocolate, put them into a treat bag for the neighbourhood children. I also used Paper Doll Dress Up to make the pumpkin and cat for a topper. BOO!!

Happy Birthday Mom!

October 19th....and my Mother celebrates 93 years!! We will go out for lunch and have a good visit. Maybe a manicure and pedicure will be in the mix....mother-daughter fun! So with that in mind, I made a card for her. She loves birds and has a feeder attached to the window where she watches the flurry of eating. This card was made for someone older but the paper was given to me years ago before I started scrapping. I used the Live Simply cartridge (new) and added some glitter to the wing, some faux stitching to the leaves and the sentiment comes from My Pink Stamper Punnylicious
LRW - something old, something new
Fantabulous Cricut  - leaves

A Steckle Woods Hike

I was thinking of the song "if you go down to the woods today, you're in for a big surprise...." as I entered the woods and began to hike with my Probus gals! What a beautiful day Monday! The sky was blue, and the leaves were changing colour but what impressed me a lot were the fungi! I had never really paid much attention to fungus before. Today, though, I looked beyond the trees. There was a lot of laughter and singing (who me?) as we got lost and ended up hiking in a big circle. Our group got separated from the main group as we were so enthrolled with the flora and fauna....oops. The pictures say it all!!

Happy Day

It was time to get back to work  so today I have been trying to make several cards for various occasions. I used  Cricut "Sweethearts" to cut the flower petals, pink and brown embroidery floss to braid the stem, Hampton Art stamp, "pumice stone" distress ink and unknown paper.

Epic...urean Delight

We're back!! It seemed like forever but it was only one week. We sailed out of Miami, a week ago Saturday on the NCL Epic, the second largest cruise ship in the world! It is a beautiful ship full of exciting activities. We had an aft cabin so were able to watch the sunsets and relax with a glass of wine before dinner. The entertainment was amazing! We attended a Cirque Dreams and dinner show, a Second City comedy, had a Murder Mystery lunch, saw a Blue Man Group performance, took a Salsa dance lesson, saw the most amazing comedian and magician Jeff Hobson, and grooved along with the music of ABBA under the stars. The food was wonderfully delicious and we met so many interesting people. But, like they say...there's no place like home!!!

Countdown

I am now in countdown mode....two sleeps until we are on holiday. I spent Tuesday visiting with my Mom who is in a nursing home in London. She is incredible! Her birthday is next month and she will be 93. I think her memory is better than mine. We had a great time getting caught up, getting manicures, had lunch together and visited with her friends. Today, I got my hair cut and saw the surgeon. He said I am cured...oh, what a feeling!! After birthday gift hunting and getting some US money, it was time to get home and pack. I am really getting so much better at it and my suitcase is only half full! How cool is that? Room for shopping! I made a birthday card and was happy it didn't take long. Tomorrow is my last official day as President of our Probus group. It is a lot of work to organize the subcommittees and pull everything together. I made muffins for the Management Committee who meet afterward because I am starved by then! I am looking forward to seeing everyone after the summer break!

Monday, Monday....

Last hurrah of golf. We had so much fun and such a perfect day but golf goes way beyond the game...it's all about hunting and fishing and did we catch some fish!! Lynn and I are avid hunters of lost balls. There is a primal need to look, and look after the lost and we take our job seriously. Once we see the water our game goes south and the gleam in our eye grows. I have now washed and put away the clubs for another season and look forward to sharing my gently used but clean balls!!

Solstilites Reunite

That's it...it's done, gone, kaput...the summer is officially over because we closed the pool Saturday....ahhh, so sad to put that final cover on, on such a gorgeous day. However, I love the fall...the colours, smells, the harvest....a new season. We are so lucky to live in a country where we have four seasons.
The day ended on a upbeat note as we had another Solstice reunion. We met two amazing couples on our last Med cruise and have stayed in touch. Last night we were invited to the home of Leslee and Earl and wow...what a beautiful home! The excellent food was based on a Jamaican theme and the cosmos and wine flowed freely.  Gary and Marsha brought a dark, delicious chocolate cake that was out of this world!! What more could a girl ask for?

A Soup Making Kind of Day

The weather outside has been frightful so I decided to make the inside delightful! I was looking at my poor old tomato plants in the rain Saturday and knew I had to make a decision. We had been eating them for weeks and there were a dozen left on the vine looking pretty tired. Soup!! Fresh tomato soup!! With lots of garlic and onion and splash of this and a dollop of that and before I knew it, my kitchen had become una cucina italiana!!! The smells and flavours were so inviting and the result was so exciting! I think I will try it again this week and freeze more soup for those long days of winter!

Fantastic Friday

Crazy week again...is it September?? I have not had time to work on any more challenges but  I know when the time is right... it's right. I have been working on some scrapping pages and am almost finished our Las Vegas trip. I was so excited to receive my Plantin Schoolbook cartridge this week. Only took two weeks!! I am still waiting for the "box" from NJ. I think it's been two months. Probably sitting at customs. We went golfing this evening with good friends and a wonderful pasta dinner and wine tasting followed compliments of Pelee Island Wineries. Thanks Tim and Sue!! The weather has finally switched up a bit and we have had rain and it is a bit cooler. No hurricanes!! Maybe tonight we can finally open the windows!! Here we are on the eighth green. I had a terrible game..... Sue and I have a Probus tournament next Friday so maybe tonight I worked out some kinks!!

Deepest Sympathy

Another sizzler of a day. I spent the afternoon preparing food for my dear friends who lost their Mother Sunday. I also made them a sympathy card and enjoyed the challenge of heat embossing. I think it fits the challenge at The Pink Elephant- mostly white. I added some glimmer mist to the flower centres as it needed some glitz. I like the Hero Arts stamp "Large Line Flowers" but had never tried embossing with it before. The sentiment is also from Hero Arts.

Sizzling Sunday

Wow... has the weather ever been fabulous here in S Ontario!! Another hot one today and I think it's going to continue!
I picked up my new "Honey" yesterday and she looks pretty fine.
I spent much of my day gardening as everything is overgrown! I found a wonderful book full of natural ways to look after your garden...what a find! We borrowed it from the library to make sure it was something we might use and today I made up an elixir for my roses and a concoction for black spot. Now we wait. There was a tip on how to keep cats from using your garden as their litter box! I like cats but for some reason some of the plants aren't doing as well this year and I may now know the reason. Take a cotton ball and dip it in lemon furniture polish and place it in the soil where you think the cat might be going. It's worth a try! I just came in from taking a swim...the house is so hot and I don't want to use the air as it does cool down overnight. Our friend's mother passed away last night. So sad for them. I made a sympathy card and will upload it tomorrow and post. I must try getting some sleep as it has been a long day! Good night!

Finally, Friday

I never thought this week would end. Have you ever had a week that just keeps on going and going and going? It started out on a good note Monday with the selling of my Dad's car....difficult emotionally but I am moving on. Tuesday brought the best news..I am cancer free!! Celebration time! Wednesday's golf game was less than desirable but the company made it worthwhile. Then an overnight trip to visit Mom and I found time to buy a new car. Back Thursday night to get to a scrapping sketch class....awesome! And finally, Friday....the car has been picked up, the cheque deposited and I am going to sit and enjoy a cup of tea. Anyone interested in joining me? Until then.....

Hugs

I am saluting all my family, friends, and neighbours today! I got some startling news from the doctor in June and last week had surgery. Everyone has been soooo supportive....from the calls, letters, cards, emails, visits, flowers, dinner, etc etc I am soooo lucky!! As a result, I have not been on My Creative Playground and finally today rolled out my first card in two weeks! It felt so good. Now if only I could get to my scrapping!! The healing will take time and I hope to be back full throttle soon. My new word.....patience! Thanks to everyone!!!!!!

Happy Anniversary

Today was our wedding anniversary! Wow...with the same guy!! It has been an adventure and we are looking forward to the next chapter or two or three!! We hosted a barbecue Saturday and had such fun! The weather was perfect and the food, if I do say myself, was delicious! I was so happy that my 92 yr old Mother was able to travel an hour and a half each way to celebrate with us! She is such a trooper. Thanks to everyone for making this day such a memorable one!!

The green, green grass of golf....

Another wonderful day! Ted ( my dear hubby) took the day off work and we decided to go golfing. I think the actual plot was to get me outside into this beautiful weather and away from my Creative Playground where I hole up hour after hour!! We played with our friends Dawn and Ross and had  a great time fraternizing. A Greek dinner followed (yummy!!!) to celebrate both of our 36th wedding anniversaries.  A great start to the long Civic holiday weekend also known as Simcoe Day (Monday).

Thank Heavens for Golf

I am becoming obsessed!!! I now feel the "need" to make a card for a challenge and now it's more than one and sometimes three or four! It doesn't stop there...I "have" to admire all the other bloggers' work too!! Hiphip hurray for my golfing gals! They take me away from my crafting corner at least once a week and bring me back to reality. Dawn and Lynn....thank you!!! Love you lots!

It's Wednesday afternoon, time to make a card....

Since I am so new to cardmaking, I do not own a Christmas stamp....ouch!!  So, time to think outside the box.... I cut a triangle for a tree, decorated it with plastic beading, added some glimmer dust, outlined it and the trunk which is in purple to match the background, in black pen, used my Cuttlebug to emboss the white cardstock, added the sentiment Joy from Kimmie's Stamps and voila...I have a Christmas card.

Button Flower

Little Red Wagon Challenge:  I was confused as to what exactly the challenge (case) was this morning but it was morning and moi is moi! lol I found further clues this afternoon so I went to work. I admire Rosanne's work (DT) as I do the other gals. There is an edge to her work that I find refreshing and that I can relate to. So I took one of her recent cards "hip, hip, Hooray"! ......
and made one that  more or less followed the guidelines. I like the final product and I hope you enjoy it too!!

It's a Bloghopping Kind of Day

It's Monday, usually laundry day, however, it was dull and dismal this morning so why do chores when you can put them off until tomorrow! I did get a pedicure and I love those pink toes! I was being creative yesterday making a special birthday card for my future daughter-in-law. I will share it once I present it to her. I am excited that it turned out so well.  Wednesday afternoon is already promised as a card making afternoon. My friend Julie is a Special Olympics coach and would like help making a bunch of thank you cards. I guess my Vegas scrapbooking is being put on hold....again! I did participate in a blog hop this morning and it was fun! If you are interested in looking at new dies and some new ideas, go to   http://peachykeenstamps.blogspot.com  and hop along with their DT. Have a great day!

Fabulous Friday

Good Afternoon! Another beautiful day, after a good rain last night! My tomato plants fell over along with the Hydrangea. I spent a wonderful day with my brother yesterday visiting "old haunts". Once a year, we travel back in time to our place of birth and then visit with friends along the way. We ended up at the beach at the cottage of our old babysitters!! Talk about a walk down memory lane!
I am entering my card into the LRW challenge #37 Use a Tree. I bought this sweet stamp on a whim and put it away.  Like the phoenix, it has been resurrected! It is called the Heritage Tree by Stamping Bella  and I coloured it with Prisma pencil crayons, cut it out with a Nestability, and mounted it on my fav colour blue. I love seeing yellow and blue together so had to add some ribbon and a Prima mini flower. I think embossing the blue cardstock adds some dimension. I didn't think it needed a sentiment and for once, I didn't use it for a birthday card!!

Sorry I Froggot

The day wasn't as nice as it should have been for water aerobics, so we postponed. With my friend Lorie, went to visit Cathie in hospital and got some cleaning and napping done. I also took time to make this card. My friend Pia is not from this area and has been on a Baltic cruise the past three weeks. I missed her birthday last Wednesday so it was the perfect opportunity to try out the new Cricut Live Simply. Easy to do and I will get it into the mail tomorrow. Enjoy!

Monday Morning

Good day! It looked like it might rain this morning so I went out to the garden to check on the plants and what a sight awaited me!!! My first Morning Glory had burst into bloom and if you look closely at the centre, there appears to be a glow of light. This is better than a cup of coffee!! I don't know much about these plants but I do hope they continue to bloom all summer long!! Thanks for looking!!

Super Sunday

It was a perfect day to end the weekend! I worked in the garden clearing weeds and edging  before it got really hot and was rewarded with an afternoon of R & R by the pool. Our daughter came home with her b/f and watching them have competitions in the pool was a riot! I also thought the flowers looked so pretty! I tried to take a  picture of a bee rolling in the pollen....he looked almost drunk! Bee-eautiful!!

Little Red Wagon Challenge #36 Nestabilities

We have a surprise birthday party for a male friend tomorrow afternoon. He and his wife are part of our wine tasting club so I decided to make a card related to our love of wine and a hint that he is now 60!!

New Jersey

It's been a long time since I last posted...where have the days gone??? I have a good excuse.....my husband and I drove to New Jersey to visit friends and celebrate their Fourth of July. It was so hot and humid! We met John and Jan on a cruise four years ago and have kept in touch. A trip to NJ wouldn't be complete without a tour of Atlantic City! The beach is beautiful as well as the boardwalk. I even made a little money at the Hilton!! We had an interesting lunch at Rats, a restaurant near their home, named after a character in Wind and the Willow. It was a long drive but well worth it to spend time with dear friends!!

Strawberry Margarita Pie

Our ballroom dancing is over for the summer but we are having a potluck bbq tonight to celebrate our successes, triumphs and a few trials and tribulations. I made this wonderful, refreshing dessert. I hope you try it!
4 c pretzel sticks, coarsely ground
3 T granulated sugar
1/3 c melted butter
Mix and firmly press into a 9" pie plate. Bake 425 for 5-7 min. Place in freezer to cool.
5 c strawberry ice cream
1 lime
2 T tequila and orange flavoured liqueur
1 c sliced strawberries for garnish
When crust is cool, place slightly softened ice cream in a large bowl. Squeeze juice from lime, stir in tequila and liqueur. It's ok if mixture is lumpy....mixture should resemble a thick milkshake. Spoon into cooled crust and cover with plastic wrap and freeze until firm ( 4 hours) Let sit 10 min before serving and garnish if desired...yummy!!!

Solstice Reunion

We met online....the summer of 2009, chatting about the cruise each of us had planned and were going to take, making arrangements to share tours in ports of call. We discovered we lived within two hours of each other and suddenly we became "Team Ontario"! We met for the first time at theTrevi fountain in Rome...a bustling place, full of tourists and Romans out for a stroll, had dinner in a small restaurant together over beer and wine and became fast friends. It was as if we had known each other for years. Funny thing, even our husbands had a blast together! We met again last night, for the first time since our cruise, to have dinner and share our continuing life stories. What a memorable reunion! We're going to do it again....real soon!

Canada Day

Another dreary day, but I see the sun trying to peek out! It has been a great day to work on some scrapping. Thanks to Rosanne who directed me to Little Red Wagon, I am going to submit my first challenge! I enjoy the look of embossing so used some white embossing powder and a Nestabilites folder....added a white ribbon and used an old camera and ....voila! I think I need to learn how to take better pictures!!

School's Out

Happy Thursday afternoon! The sun is shining but it is humid. Today was my last day at school. I have been volunteering in a grade one class for a friend who had many challenging students this year. I enjoy being in the classroom but am quite happy to walk out later! She surprised me with a wonderful gift so I had to make her a thank you card and send it off immediately. I hope she likes it!
